Happy Mother's Day!

Welcome to my blog!
This is where I share all things inspirational, educational & relatable. I share from my heart whether in the garden or in the kitchen, at the farm or farmers market, or from the field or the seaside! I feel blessed to have such amazing people in my life - you are a significant part of why I like to write and it's you that can make a difference in your life and the lives of those closest to you...so read. Be inspired. Take action. Grow food. Enjoy each day. Bring people together. Smile. See you soon!
Recent community events have brought our Boy Scouts out to show and share all about Square Foot Gardening. Seeing these boys gain knowledge and demonstrate skills is so empowering. Seeing them take ownership of this fundraising project goes beyond just learning the basics of Square Foot Gardening.

Mel Bartholomew - these boys are doing you proud!
It occured to me that everytime they show up to represent their troop and everythime they share in casual conversation with another, that what they have learned with these experiences must tie in directly with the Boy Scout Oath. So, I decided to ask their Scout Master, Bill Hall, who just happens to be an Eagle Scout and my hubby, to share his thoughts on this! Here's what he said:
It's Grow Time! Yes, it surely is! And, I am super excited to share with you what's inside the cover of the May June 2013 Fairfield Magazine! You can see it and read it all right here in the article titled "Yard-to-Table" by contributor Tracy Holleran!!!

GET GREEN - GET GROWING –
SAVE WATER – SAVE SEEDS – NO WORK – NO WEEDS!
NO KIDDING!!!
Wow!
What a pleasure - Dave Conrardy - lovingly known as "Dave The Raw Food Trucker" was just in town!!!
Talk about inspiration and gratitude, the power of raw, rawkin' food - it was such a pleasure to welcome him once again to Fairfield, CT - actually to Norwalk and to Weston - read on.
This picture speaks a million words. Here's a before and after photo. All things are possible. Dave let's you settle into your chair and shares his story. Gratitude. Inspiration.
We teamed up first at the FTNS studio for our 2nd live broadcast joined by Kathy Caulfield our "reaching for raw gal" sharing her story, too.
Embrace the energy of the Earth, the spirit of the sunshine, and the magic of "boosting your health from a box - a Square Foot Gardening Box!"
In the Northeast, it is finally - it seems, that time of year when we are free and clear to get outside and get growing!
So, step out and build your box, fill it with perfect soil - called Mel's Mix, place a grid on top and simply embrace this "no work, no weeds, no waste, no worry" system of growing amazing, nutrient dense food.
Well, WOW! What a day! What a show!!!
We had quite the line up for the radio show today and everyone was so on their mark and clear with their voice and message that I just have to do a happy dance, thank each of my guests and share it with you!!! Several amazing and passionate Square Foot Gardening Foundation (SFGF) Certified Instructors jumped on the airwaves for our show - but, the cream of the crop, the brightest star in the sky, the tallest tomato on the trellis, who put the icing on the cake and the grid on the garden - none other than Mel Bartholomew, the founder and inventor of Square Foot Gardening, also joined us! Mel presented a new announcement and a very BIG IDEA!
Award winning journalist and FTNS Radio guest Laura Modlin shares three voices here in this article posted in the Fairfield Sun that supports a healthy resolve for the New Year - a new way to think, a new way to carry yourself during each day, a new way to play it more meaningful in the real world with those closest to you. A new way to create a new relationship with your food. This is for everyone of all ages. We all have a role to play and need to look to our closest circle of friends, family and reach out and connect to the people we haven't even met yet.
The Article: Food resolutions for a sustainable future is here.
Laura shares the passion and voice of what three of us in the field think, do, are and speak out on the ways to empower every individual to change food and eating actions, beliefs and how to create a healthier, sustainable, way to food source and eat.

Outstanding.
One word that means: Exceptional. Prominant. Clearly noticeable. Striking. Standing out.
What an outstanding event this was to attend! My understanding is, it was the first collaboration of an event of this sort between community partners Schenectady Proctors and Schenectady Greenmarket.
As I sit here in the first couple of days of 2013 thinking about the typical "New Year, New You" topics and titles...a larger picture looms before me. Actually, it begins with something purely simple and small. Seeds.
After all, we all begin as a seed. As we grow, we hold the complete potential to tap into our passion and purpose, nourish and grow - blossom and become, and rise up. Our thoughts and ideas are our seeds that we sow hoping to grow big things - bringing dreams and visions to reality. What does that look like for you? Do you have personal purpose and hopes? Do you create and empower excitement in yourself and in others? The world hopes you do. This is how you satisfy fulfilment and attain happiness and joy. What draws you to that place?
The Sound of Music just came into my head - Edleweiss - bloom and grow, bloom and grow forever. You are what you plant, nurture and grow. Think small. Start somewhere. Trust. Chart your course. Envision your dreams. Ask for help. Seek support. Share and let others in. Grow your circle. Expand and embrace. Start simple and small.
